Steps In Locating Your Lost Pet

• Make fliers with your pet’s picture and general information (breed, color, size, sex). Never state the reward amount. Omit your last name and home address.

• Withhold some indentifying information from your flier or your ad (tattoo number, scar, outstanding physical or behavioral characteristics)

• Survey your neighborhood on foot, talk to your neighbors and hand out fliers

• Visit and report your lost pet to your local animal shelter at 702 E. College Street 760-6676 Check with them daily by phone or visit.

• Leave fliers with your neighbors, at your neighborhood’s supermarket, Laundromat, etc. Always return and remove all fliers.

• Place an ad in your local newspapers and watch for Founds ads (FOUND ADS ARE FREE)

• Please call the Sanitation Department just in case it was hit by a motor vehicle 760-6495

• Fax a flier to all the veterinarians just in case it was injured and taken to them (see below)

• If you suspect that it was stolen, report it to the Police Department  760-6500

• When taking to strangers about your pets, get them to give you information about the pet they claim to have

• If the people claiming to have your pet offers to bring it to you don’t give them your home address and always take one other person with you. Pick a public, well trafficked, high visibility area and NEVER AT NIGHT.
