3 TOP REASONS TO ADOPT

FROM THE FLORENCE ANIMAL SHELTER

  1. The adoption fee is $75. This includes a Rabies vaccination & spay/neuter surgery. Shelter puppies under 3 months old receive puppy vaccines and are dewormed. Shelter adult dogs receive Kennel Cough/Parvo vaccines and are dewormed. (Subject to change)
  2. Shelter pets become the victims of family tragedy, unlucky circumstances or irresponsible owners. Despite the odds, a shelter pet can become a companion for life & the perfect addition to your family.
  3. You are supporting your local animal shelter.

What is SAViA?

Posted by cadie on March 8, 2012

This website is run by SAViA-Shelter Animal Volunteers in Action organization at the Florence-Lauderdale Animal Shelter.
Please view SAViA’s website for the Colbert County Animal Shelter at: colbert.saviashelters.org

.

OUR MISSION

Animal shelters’ biggest struggle comes from the lack of reliable volunteers. Our mission is to recruit, train and schedule volunteers to provide daily pet care implemented with rescue/foster care/vetting/meds program and  pre-spay/neuter to control the overpopulation of our city and county dogs and cats. SAViA has already established a volunteer program at two local animal shelters.

OUR IMMEDIATE GOAL:

SAViA is planning special fundraising events and will apply for grants to build a new shelter.

OUR LONG TERM GOAL:

SAViA plans to build a Community Pet Center providing firstly boarding kennels serving as overflow for local animal shelters, sick bay, and adoption center. And secondly, to merge a low cost animal clinic and spay/neuter center, grooming shop, pet-friendly park, etc.

SAViA is made up of extremely caring, passionate volunteers who work tirelessly to provide a forever home for our shelter pets. We currently have 80+ volunteers but need a total of 100 volunteers to fill our Monday-Friday and weekend shifts and to maintain a pool of substitutes.

We are thankful to FLAC’s staff for embracing our volunteer organization, to our community for adopting from its local shelter, and to rescue organizations for accepting our shelter animals on a regular basis.

SAViA offers volunteers diverse opportunities to learn, gain new skills and experiences, meet new people and get involved in our community. We would be honored to have you join our team.

Cat & Kitten Care Report by Susan

Posted by cadie on March 5, 2012

This is Precious, she is an 11 year old kitty in our cat habitat. She really needs a home, so she can have her own space. She is fine with other cats, but just doesn’t seem happy at the shelter. Her adoption fee is $35, to cover the rabies vaccination and worming. She was already spayed when she came to us.

Cecily and Susan
~
We had so many people come in to look at cats that it took forever to get our work done.  I cleaned cages and did the usual food and water and litter boxes.  Cecily got cards from up front and labled and copied their names into the book.  We got a very sweet cat in that Cecily took to the vet to have an abscess cleaned and steriod shot was given and an antibiotic.  I may be wrong on the antibiotic.  Cecily gave meds to the rest of the cats that needed them.
~
The Habitat Room wasn’t even touched.  Cecily came in later and did that room; it wasn’t bad.  People everywhere, sometimes good, but hard to get anything done.  I washed litter boxes and food/water bowls.  I think that a cat from the Kitten room cat was adopted but with so many people in there I don’t remember.  A hectic morning.
