3 TOP REASONS TO ADOPT

FROM THE FLORENCE ANIMAL SHELTER

  1. The adoption fee is $75. This includes a Rabies vaccination & spay/neuter surgery. Shelter puppies under 3 months old receive puppy vaccines and are dewormed. Shelter adult dogs receive Kennel Cough/Parvo vaccines and are dewormed. (Subject to change)
  2. Shelter pets become the victims of family tragedy, unlucky circumstances or irresponsible owners. Despite the odds, a shelter pet can become a companion for life & the perfect addition to your family.
  3. You are supporting your local animal shelter.

Cat Care Report by Susan

Posted by cadie on January 23, 2012

Tucker – Tabby/orange young male                  Evelyn – Tabby/grey young female                 Abby – Tabby/grey young female

 Monday morning January 23, 2012

Both rooms weren’t bad this morning.  In the Habitat Room some of the litter was out of the tray but other than that everthing was looking good.  Cecily did the Habitat Room because she couldn’t stand the male spraying in the Kitten Room.
.
Laurie took Smokey and Alpine to Pet Depot.  Someone dropped off another cat today.  She is in pen 9.  The big and beautiful black cat that came in last week is warming up to us.  She is just gorgeous and she only weighs 9 pounds; you’d never believe it.  She’s all long black fur.  Food and water bowls were changed and litter boxes got the usual going over.  Soft food was offered in both rooms.  I can only hope that Tucker, the male who sprays, will bet fixed Wednesday.  He definitely needs it before the others.  Between the heater drying pups, the smell of the male, and the heat it was close to unbearable in the kitten room.  I finally put all the kittens in their pens and opened the door.
.
We did have some people that came in to the kitten room to see if they wanted any of the cats.  It is to early for kitten kittens so they will come back later in the Spring.  They didn’t stay to long in that room!
.
Susan, Laurie, and Cecily

HAPPY ENDING STORY for Hope

Posted by cadie on January 15, 2012

UPDATE 1/20/12 – Hope is currently being fostered and has 2 families who want to adopt her.

On Friday 13 January this young thing was dumped at the shelter half dead Friday afternoon. But she still had the will to live and we felt she epitomized all we hope for in the future with the new “no kill shelter” implementation!

After intensive care she rallied and within 2 hours she was able to stand and lift her head. She skated sooo very close to death but looks like she will do well and maybe she will become our HOPE for the future. Let’s see!!

By the way we named her “Hope”.

Love, Barbara K.

PLEASE DO THIS “FREE” GOOD DEED

Posted by cadie on January 9, 2012

It takes less than a minute (How about 20 seconds) to go to their site and click on the purple box that says “Click here to Give – It’s Free!” You don’t have to fill anything out, and it’s just counting clicks.

This doesn’t cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising. Here’s the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

2012 NEW VOLUNTEERS

Posted by cadie on January 2, 2012

JANUARY

Brittany G. was introduced to our volunteer program while visiting our shelter. “I worked at an animal hospital inHickory,NC as a kennel technician my senior year of high school and the last five summers. Overall I have about 2 1/2 years experience working there. I was responsible for walking, feeding, bathing, and medicating the animals, as well as cleaning the kennels and the yard”.Brittany will complete 20 hours of community service for her scholarship”.

Sarah D. was introduced to our volunteer program by a friend.

Barbie K. was introduced to our volunteer program through our website.

Keyla P. was introduced to our volunteer program while visiting the shelter. “I’ve volunteered at church but never before at an animal shelter. I would love to work with the dogs and puppies. My boyfriend and I have a Great Pyrenees named Zoey. I worked a lot to train Zoey, but that is the only time I’ve trained a dog”.

Britnee W. ”My hobbies include spending time with family and friends, learning new languages, reading, shopping, and traveling. I have a wonderful Shi-Tzu puppy named Tee-Jay, he is 11 years old and means the world to me! I have volunteer experience with Habitat for Humanity, Operation Nehemiah Summer Camp, and the Florence Annual Christmas Parade 2011 (I was Dora the Explorer!) I would love to volunteer because I love animals and I’m great with them and I care all about their happiness and well being. I’ve been an animal lover ever since I was a young child so volunteering at an animal shelter would definitely be something I will be very happy with as well as committing my all to the well being of the animals”! Britnee was introduced to our volunteer by a friend.

Kelcy P. ”I am a huge dog lover. I love volunteering because it is such a huge passion of mine and really like to help people get connected with animals”. Kelcy was introduced to our volunteer program by our volunteer Hanna.

DeAnna & Nickolas F. was introduced to our volunteer program through the newspapers. “My family currently owns a stray that looks to be a full blooded Golden Retriever. I think volunteering would be a good experience for me and my son”.

Stacy R. “I have one cat, Gilberta, and one dog, Sadie. I worked for 5 years for a local veterinarian and 2 years at a pet grooming/boarding facility. I have a great love of animals and to me they are like children. They depend on humans for their every need and deserved to be cared for like the babies they are”. Stacy will perform community service.

Kierra B. will perform community service. She was introduced to our volunteer program through Facebook.

Savannah W. was introduced to our volunteer program while visiting the shelter and by friends. I have two dogs, one cat, two fish, and a bird. I have always loved caring for my animals and all animals in general. I have always wanted to volunteer for the animal shelter just to give the animals company and make sure they always have what they need to be comfortable”.

Tamel L. was introduced to our volunteer program through Decatur Animal Shelter. “I have volunteered at the Decatur Animal Shelter for a year during the week and on weekends. I cleaned cages, gave baths, walked dogs. I socialized with the cats and dogs helping them to adjust to their abandonment.”

Melanie M. was introduced to our volunteer program through Facebook. “I have always had a love of animals and would like to be a veterinarian someday. I have two dogs of my own that I love dearly. I have done volunteer work through my church”.

Natalie R. was introduced to our volunteer program through Facebook. “I have loved animals all of my life! My family includes two dogs. Weatherby is a lab mix. He is a rescue dog. I also have Izzy, a Boston Terrier. I have always wanted to volunteer, and hope that my schedule will now allow me to. I am an RN, pursuing my master degree online. I have a seven year old daughter that would also love to help on the weekends and summer”.

SAViA is made up of extremely caring, passionate volunteers who work tirelessly to provide a forever home for our shelter pets.
